Cool Slumber
So that you won’t wake up feeling super hot, a peppermint body spray is suggested. While enjoying a hot summer day, or right before bed on a hot night, try out this recipe:
- Water
- Witch hazel – 4 tablespoons
- Peppermint essential oil – 15 to 20 drops
A 4 ounce glass spray bottle will hold the mixture. Fill the rest of the bottle with water and shake. Use it to cool down your skin as a body spritz. It also works well as a linen spray and room freshener.
Bites and Burns
To relieve itchy bug bites and soothe sunburns, this spearmint/lavender recipe works wonders:
- Water
- Witch hazel – 4 tablespoons
- Aloe vera – 2 tablespoons
- Lavender – 10 drops
- Spearmint – 10 drops
In a 4 ounce spray bottle, combine the above stated oils, then fill with water. Shake the mixture and spray on feet, legs, back of the neck, and wrists. This is also a good spray for bed linen.
Vetiver Essential Oils
Also referred to as “tranquility oil”, vetiver both cools and calms the body. Though widely used in Africa, India, and Asia, it is not as common in America – and that’s a shame! Use it to help your mind relax and your body to cool by adding a couple of drops to bathwater.
Sandalwood Essential Oils
Great for cooling you down and for general skincare, this essential oil can also help calm the nervous system and your mind. It can be used in cool water by dipping a washcloth into the mixture, ringing it out, and putting it on your forehead, back of your neck, etc. You can also just apply it to your neck or face by putting a few drops in your hands.
Lavender Essential Oils
Most people consider lavender a calming, relaxing essential oil. But it is also capable of cooling both mind and body. If you get a sunburn, put a few drops in a cooling bath to bring your body temperature down. Pair it with eucalyptus, spearmint, and peppermint for an interesting recipe.
Eucalyptus Essential Oils
Your temperature will be lowered because circulation is increased by expanded blood cells due to the anti-inflammatory properties of eucalyptus oil. That, and it smells great!
Spearmint And Peppermint Essential Oils
Both of these have a fresh, energizing scent. If peppermint is a little strong for you, spearmint is a softer alternative. They are both capable of helping you cool down on a hot day.
