Many essential oils are versatile and can be used for a variety of tasks. One of the most popular of these is food preparation. Adding the right oils to your salad dressing is a great way to enhance the flavor while making it healthier overall. Most of the salad dressings sold in grocery stores have too much sodium, sugar and fat. Below is a homemade recipe which uses three of the best essential oils money can buy; orange, grapefruit and lemon.
Orange Essential Oil
Orange essential oil is produced via orange peels through the technique of cold compression. It is added to beverages to give them a distinct flavor, but can also be added to meats to make them sweet, dessert and even salad dressing. This oil is prized for its many positive characteristics, which includes antiseptic, diuretic, anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic benefits. When used in salads it can make them sweeter and it can also be incorporated into confectionary.
Grapefruit Essential Oil
Grapefruit oil is prized for its ability to aid in weight loss, but this is only scratching the surface of what it can do. It can also reduce inflammation, suppress cravings for sugar, and can combat stress. Like orange oil, it is derived from peels and is comprised of an assortment of compounds which are volatile yet beneficial. It has a wonderful aroma, and its ability to burn fat makes it one of the top ingredients for salad dressing. It is rich in both antioxidants as well as phytochemicals, which means it decreases oxidative stress in those that consume it. One of the most important components in grapefruit oil is limonene, which is known to battle cancer and tumors while shielding DNA from damage.
Lemon Essential Oil
Lemon oil has many of the same benefits as orange, with its own distinct flavor. It is compatible with other oils such as peppermint, geranium, and rose, which makes it prized among herbalists. It can be used to bring flavor to both food and beverages and is a key ingredient of hundreds of recipes. When you combine this with its ability to boost concentration, cleanse the body and repel insects, it is one of the best oils you can add to a salad dressing.
How To Make The Salad Dressing
Aside from orange, grapefruit and lemon oil, other ingredients you’ll need include two teaspoons of Dijon mustard, four table spoons of olive oil (extra virgin), two teaspoons of balsamic vinegar, and two teaspoons of honey. You will also need four drops of orange and lemon oil respectively. Once you’ve gotten together all the necessary ingredients, you will next want to whisk them all together until they are mixed well. If you want, the mixture can be enhanced further by incorporating other ingredients such as mozzarella balls, basil and tomatoes, but these aren’t mandatory.
